What is sea moss?

Sea Moss is a species of red algae which provides the natural nutrients and minerals the body & skin requires in order to build a healthy body inside & out! Sea Moss contains 92 of the 102 minerals your body needs to thrive. Today sea moss is mainly used as a source of vitamins and minerals to benefit overall health and immune support. Sea moss is sold in raw form, as a gel, powder, oral capsule or gummy. This amazing natural multivitamin has become popular because if it’s ability to help the body expel excess mucus when there is a cold or virus present. 

What does sea moss taste like? 

Although sea moss is known to have a salty ocean flavor. To eliminate that issue, we soak our sea moss with a lime to neutralize the taste. Our sea moss is tasteless with a hint of lime. 

Do you add anything to your sea moss gel? 

Our sea moss is all natural, no added preservatives.

How much sea moss to take daily? 

We recommend to start with 1-2 tablespoons a day. Many of our customers intake more by adding it to other food and drinks.

How do I use sea moss gel?

Sea moss gel can be added to coffee, tea, smoothies and soups. You can also apply it directly on your skin as a face mask and on your hair as well.

What size are your jars? 

All sea moss gel and elderberry jars are 16 ounces.

How long does it take to receive my order? 

Orders can take 2-3 business days to process and 1-2 business days for shipping, which does not include weekends or holidays. We only ship orders Monday-Wednesday to ensure freshness and prevent weekend delays that could cause spoilage. Due to the pandemic, you may experience additional shipping delays as carriers are handling record volumes.

How long does the sea moss gel last?

The sea moss gel can last up to 3 weeks depending on the flavor. Keeping the gel refrigerated, cap secured and using a clean spoon each time can prolong the shelf life of the sea moss gel. If purchasing more than one jar, freeze extra jar for up to four months.

Can I consume sea moss if I am pregnant or nursing?

Although sea moss has been safely used by pregnant and breastfeeding women for years, we are not medical professionals and suggest that you consult with your doctor before consuming. 

Can I consume sea moss gel when taking medication? 

Consuming sea moss gel along with medications might decrease how much medication your body absorbs and decrease the medications effectiveness. Please consult with your doctor before consuming, as we are not medical professionals.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds are honored for products that may arrive defective or damaged. To receive refund, an email must be sent to info@essenceofwellness.org with a photo of the damaged product within 5 days after delivery date. Ocean salt, ocean smell and ocean taste does not make it defective.

Are the capsules made with gelatin? 

All capsules are handcrafted and made with Vegetarian capsules, no gelatin capsules are used. 

Where is your sea moss sourced from?

Our Sea Moss is sourced from clear waters of St. Lucia. 

How is my sea moss gel kept fresh during shipping?

When shipping products we use commercial cold packaging protocols which includes high grade gel shipping packs and thermal wraps. When your Sea Moss gel arrives, it may be warm and in a liquid state but our packaging prevents your Sea Moss gel from rising above a certain temperature during shipping so it will not be spoiled. Put in the refrigerator immediately upon arrival and it will go back to its normal gel solid state.

What does sea moss gel taste like? What is the consistency?

We soak our Sea Moss in lime so the final product has little to no taste. Our infused Sea Moss gels taste like whatever they're infused with. Sea Moss gel has a consistency like applesauce / jelly. 

How long does capsules last? 

Our capsules can last up to a year if stored properly. Instead of becoming unsafe to ingest, they simply become less potent over time.

Sea Moss Effects?

Since sea moss is a rich source of iodine, consuming too much iodine can cause problems with thyroid gland. It is important to talk to your doctor if you are taking any thyroid medications before consuming sea moss.

Difference between sea moss and Irish moss?

Sea moss grows in warm, tropical oceans and have thick, stick-like branches. You can often find it in gold, purple and green varieties. Irish moss grows in colder, northern oceans and has dark red, flat curly leaves. Both are part of the red algae family which makes them very similar in nutritional value. If you search for any information on sea moss, you will find the same for Irish moss.

How to Make Sea Moss Gel?

  1. Remove a handful of the dried sea moss from the package. (there will be some sand and a sea smell to it at first but that is normal).
  2. Rinse the dried sea moss thoroughly (make sure to remove as much of the sand particles as possible).
  3. Take the cleaned sea moss and soak it in a filtered or spring water for about 4-8 hours.To neutralize ocean taste soak with a lime. (The amount of time you soak the sea moss is entirely dependent on you but do not soak it for less than 4 hours).
  4. After soaking the sea moss, drain the water. You should be left with almost clear , expanded sea moss. (It will be twice the original size).
  5. (Optional) To make sea moss softer after the soaking process, heat the sea moss in spring water in a pot in the stove for 5 minutes. 
  6. Add the expanded sea moss and clean spring or filtered water into a blender.
  7. Blend the sea moss until it is smooth in consistency. Take a spoon and make sure there are no clumps left.
  8. If the sea moss gel is too thick, add more water and blend until you reach the desired consistency.
  9. When done blending add sea moss to a glass jar and place in the refrigerator so sea moss can become solid.
